My own parents (an attorney and paralegal) had a 12-year litigated divorce, including subpoenaing and requiring depositions of their kids. It tore up my parents’ finances, their lives and their ability to grow beyond their black and white thinking in their future relationships. It adversely impacted all the kids. Then my former spouse opted for a similar divorce process and I watched the impact on the kids. I take Lao Tsu’s “When in deep waters, become a diver” to heart in all areas of my own life. Divorce is one of them.
