You are navigating life through divorce…
Stress is high, you are overwhelmed, scared, exhausted, have low energy, can’t concentrate and struggle to sleep. You go to your doctor and he or she writes you a Prescription for Self-Care: Exercise and Healthy Food Choices. You look at your doctor perplexed and ask, “What am I supposed to do with this?”
What your doctor gave you is PERMISSION to take care of yourself. Unfortunately, for many of us, we think of self-care as selfish and don’t realize we have the power within us to manage many of our lifestyle “conditions”.
Healthy choices and exercise are now your doctor’s orders!
At Vesta’s Divorce Retreats, many of the presentations stress the importance of self-care. During the divorce process, being of sound mind and body can help ensure those expensive lawyer meetings are more productive and the financial meetings are easier to comprehend.
Exercise can be one of the easiest ways to feel better, reduce stress, conquer depression, gain energy and control anger.
When combined with healthy food choices and good sleep habits, it can promote a positive self-image and self-worth, which is helpful when working with the professionals who will guide you towards making the best decisions for your post-divorce life.
Mealtime can become stressful if you are now eating meals alone. I encourage you to prioritize yourself and to remember that it is imperative to nourish your body. To avoid daily dinner production, pick a weekend afternoon and make a large batch of a hearty soup or stew that can be portioned and frozen. You now have multiple meals, and dinner may feel not so overwhelming. Add some fruit and a salad to create a complete meal. If you are struggling with breakfast or lunch, make a protein shake mixed with fresh spinach, a handful of berries and some nuts to prepare an easy meal that will nourish your body and mind.
While eating alone may make you sad, this could be a good time to reframe your thoughts. Use the quiet time to relax and think of what you are grateful for, or discover the possibilities that await you once this process is over.
You get to create your future!
